Figure on the left: border zone of an andalousite-bearing vein. Neoformed minerals of this border zone are andalusite, staurolite, biotite and muscovite (464 ko).
Garnet and perhaps staurolite are inherited from host rock and sometimes present resorbed border as shown in the figure on the right: X-ray element mapping result for Mn and Ca in one of the garnet present in figure on the left. Grains are resorbed due to vein formation: grains rounded and chemical variation in border and in cracks: Mn increase, Ca is washed,... (97 ko)

Biotite-rich border (+/- muscovite) from a vein with quartz and aluminosilicates; this last one is not present in this picture (451 ko)
Kinked kyanite deformed in a vein. Deformation may occur during vein opening or shortly after. However, andalusite is never deformed (345 ko) Relic of kyanite in an andalousite grain (278 ko) Border of a Ky+Qtz+Pl vein with biotite-rich border in this case, border is extremly well developed on the right-side of this picture (555 ko)
Left and central figures: X-ray element mapping (magnesium) in large andalousite grains showing Mg (and Fe) -poor rim in dark blue and a core richer in light blue to green (310 and 604 ko).
Right figure also comprise two Ky grains (in deep dark blue) surrounding the And blast, recognisable with the quasi absence of Mg (689 ko)
